- Feeling entitled to others' success or possessions
Islamic Perspective
The Prophet ﷺ said: "It is not poverty that I fear for you, but rather I fear that the world will be spread out for you as it was spread out for those before you, and you will compete for it as they competed for it, and it will destroy you as it destroyed them." (Bukhari)
Allah says: "Competition in [worldly] increase diverts you until you visit the graveyards." (At-Takathur 102:1-2)
Treatment
- Practice contentment: Be satisfied with what Allah has provided
- Count your blessings: Regularly reflect on your existing favors
- Give charity: Sharing wealth reduces attachment to it
- Remember death: Material accumulation ends with death
- Focus on spiritual wealth: Prioritize good deeds over material gain
- Avoid comparing: Stop measuring yourself against others' possessions
