Ghaflah is a state where the heart becomes distracted from Allah and the remembrance of the Hereafter.
Definition
Heedlessness is a spiritual condition where one becomes forgetful of Allah, negligent in worship, and unmindful of the purpose of life and the Hereafter.
Signs of Heedlessness
- Neglecting regular prayers or performing them carelessly
- Rarely remembering Allah throughout the day
- Being completely absorbed in worldly affairs
- Lack of reflection on death and the Hereafter
- Feeling spiritually numb or disconnected
Islamic Perspective
Allah says: "And whoever is blinded from remembrance of the Most Merciful - We appoint for him a devil, and he is to him a companion." (Az-Zukhruf 43:36)
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Remember often the destroyer of pleasures: death." (Tirmidhi)
Treatment
- Increase dhikr: Remember Allah frequently throughout the day
- Regular prayer: Establish consistent prayer with presence of heart
- Reflect on death: Regularly contemplate mortality and the Hereafter
- Recite Quran: Read and ponder the meanings of the Quran
- Seek good company: Surround yourself with those who remind you of Allah
- Visit graves: Occasionally visit cemeteries to remember death
