Definition
Hubb al-Dunya is the excessive attachment to worldly life, possessions, status, and pleasures, leading to neglect of spiritual obligations and the Hereafter.

- Prioritizing material gain over spiritual obligations
- Excessive worry about worldly matters
- Reluctance to spend in charity or for Allah's cause
- Feeling more excitement about worldly achievements than spiritual ones
- Neglecting worship due to worldly preoccupations
Islamic Perspective
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Love of the world is the root of all evil." (Bayhaqi)
Allah says: "Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children." (Al-Hadid 57:20)
Treatment
- Remember death: Frequently reflect on the temporary nature of worldly life
- Focus on the Hereafter: Regularly contemplate eternal life and its rewards
- Practice charity: Give regularly to detach from material possessions
- Simplify lifestyle: Reduce unnecessary luxuries and complications
- Seek contentment: Find satisfaction in what Allah has provided
- Study stories of the righteous: Learn from those who prioritized the Hereafter
