- Difficulty accepting that others might be better
- Attributing success solely to personal effort
Islamic Perspective
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Three things are destructive: obeyed stinginess, followed desires, and a person's self-admiration. This last one is the most destructive." (Bayhaqi)
Allah says: "So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him." (An-Najm 53:32)
Treatment
- Remember Allah's grace: Attribute all success to Allah's guidance and help
- Study your flaws: Regularly examine your shortcomings and mistakes
- Seek forgiveness: Constantly ask Allah for forgiveness
- Learn from others: Recognize that others may excel in areas you don't
