FAQ
Tazkiyah means purifying and cultivating the soul — removing harmful traits and developing virtuous ones. Allah mentions it as one of the Prophet's ﷺ three missions alongside teaching the Book and wisdom (62:2).
The Quran identifies: Nafs al-Ammara (the self that commands evil, 12:53), Nafs al-Lawwama (the self-reproaching soul, 75:2), and Nafs al-Mutma'inna (the tranquil soul, 89:27). The spiritual journey moves from the first to the last.
Daily tazkiyah includes regular dhikr, self-reflection (muhasabah) before sleeping, praying on time with presence of heart, reading Quran with contemplation, and sincere tawbah. Consistency matters more than quantity.
The foremost scholars include al-Ghazali (Ihya Ulum al-Din), Ibn al-Qayyim (Madarij al-Salikin), and al-Muhasibi (al-Ri'ayah). Their works provide detailed roadmaps for spiritual growth.
