Once upon a time, there lived a very special boy named Yusuf. He was the son of Prophet Ya'qub (Jacob), and Allah had
blessed him with extraordinary beauty and wisdom, even as a young child.
One night, when Yusuf was just twelve years old, he had an amazing dream. In his dream, he saw eleven stars, the sun,
and the moon all bowing down to him! Excitedly, he ran to tell his father about this wonderful dream.
Prophet Ya'qub was very wise and understood that this dream meant something very special. He told Yusuf, "My dear son,
this dream is a sign from Allah that you will become very important one day. But don't tell your brothers about this
dream yet, because they might become jealous."
Unfortunately, Yusuf's older brothers were already jealous of him because their father loved him very much. When they
saw how special Yusuf was, their jealousy grew even stronger.
One day, the brothers made a terrible plan. They said to their father, "Father, let Yusuf come with us to play and graze
our sheep." Ya'qub didn't want to let Yusuf go because he was worried something bad might happen, but the brothers
insisted.
The brothers took Yusuf far from home and threw him into a deep, dark well! They thought they would never see him again.
Then they went back to their father with Yusuf's shirt, covered with fake blood, and lied, saying, "A wolf ate our
brother!"
But Ya'qub was very wise and didn't believe them. He said, "No, you have made up this story. Allah will help me be
patient, and I trust that Allah will bring Yusuf back to me."
Meanwhile, poor Yusuf was trapped in the well, but he wasn't alone. Allah was with him, giving him strength and hope.
Allah even told him that one day he would meet his brothers again and remind them of what they had done.
The next day, a caravan of traders was passing by the well. When they lowered their bucket to get water, they were
amazed to find a beautiful boy instead! They pulled Yusuf out and decided to take him to Egypt to sell him.
In Egypt, a rich and important man bought Yusuf. This man was kind and told his wife, "Let's take good care of this boy.
Maybe he can help us, or maybe we can adopt him as our son."
Yusuf grew up in the rich man's house and became very handsome and wise. Allah blessed him with knowledge and good
judgment. Everyone who met him could see that he was very special.
When Yusuf became a young man, the rich man's wife tried to make him do something wrong. But Yusuf was a good, righteous
person who always tried to please Allah. He said, "I will never do anything wrong! I must always be honest and good."
Even though Yusuf did nothing wrong, he was blamed and put in prison. This made him very sad, but he never stopped
believing in Allah and being kind to everyone around him.
In prison, Yusuf discovered that Allah had given him a special gift - he could understand what dreams meant! He helped
two other prisoners understand their dreams, and everything happened exactly as he said it would.
One of the prisoners worked for the king of Egypt. When the king had strange dreams that no one could understand, this
man remembered Yusuf and told the king about him.
The king had dreamed about seven fat cows being eaten by seven thin cows, and seven green ears of grain being eaten by
seven dry ears. All the wise men in the kingdom were puzzled, but Yusuf explained the dream perfectly.
"Your Majesty," said Yusuf, "your dream means that Egypt will have seven years of excellent harvests with lots of food.
But after that, there will be seven years of terrible famine with very little food. You should save food during the good
years to prepare for the difficult years ahead."
The king was so impressed with Yusuf's wisdom that he made him the minister in charge of all the food in Egypt! Yusuf
was only thirty years old, but he was now one of the most important people in the entire kingdom.
During the seven good years, Yusuf worked very hard to collect and store grain. When the seven years of famine came,
Egypt had plenty of food saved up, while other countries were running out of food.
Back in Canaan, Yusuf's family was also struggling because of the famine. Ya'qub sent his sons (except the youngest,
Benjamin) to Egypt to buy food. They didn't know that the important minister they were meeting was actually their
brother Yusuf!
Yusuf recognized his brothers immediately, but they didn't recognize him because he had grown up and was dressed like an
Egyptian prince. Instead of being angry or seeking revenge, Yusuf decided to test them to see if they had changed and
become better people.
Yusuf gave his brothers food but kept one of them (Simeon) in Egypt as a guarantee that they would return with their
youngest brother, Benjamin. When they came back with Benjamin, Yusuf tested them again by hiding his silver cup in
Benjamin's bag and then accusing him of stealing.
The brothers were heartbroken and begged Yusuf not to keep Benjamin in Egypt. They said, "Please take one of us instead!
Our father is very old, and losing Benjamin would make him die of sadness."
When Yusuf saw that his brothers really cared about their father and youngest brother, he knew they had changed and
become good people. With tears in his eyes, he said, "Don't you know who I am? I am Yusuf, your brother!"
The brothers were shocked and ashamed. They remembered the terrible thing they had done so many years ago. But Yusuf
forgave them completely and said, "Don't worry about the past. Allah has used everything that happened to bring about
good things. Go quickly and bring our father here!"
When Ya'qub heard that his beloved son Yusuf was alive and had become a great leader in Egypt, he was overwhelmed with
joy and gratitude to Allah. The whole family moved to Egypt, where they were reunited after so many years apart.
When Ya'qub met Yusuf, he remembered the dream from so long ago. Indeed, Yusuf's eleven brothers, his father (the sun),
and his mother (the moon) all bowed down to him with respect, just as the dream had shown!
