The Quran mentions 25 prophets by name, including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (peace be upon them all). However, Islam teaches that Allah sent many more prophets to every nation, with some traditions citing as many as 124,000 prophets throughout human history.

The Quran retells stories in different contexts to highlight different lessons each time. For example, the story of Moses appears in over 30 surahs, each time emphasizing a unique aspect - leadership, patience, trust in God, or confronting tyranny. This deliberate repetition reinforces core moral lessons and makes them unforgettable.

The Quran focuses on theological lessons rather than detailed biographies. Unlike the Bible, the Quran does not attribute sins like drunkenness or illicit relationships to prophets, as Islam holds all prophets to be moral exemplars protected from major sins. Muslims believe the biblical accounts were altered over time, while the Quran preserves the original message.

The story of Yusuf, called "the best of stories" in the Quran (12:3), teaches patience through extreme adversity, resisting temptation, trusting God's plan even when circumstances seem hopeless, the power of forgiveness, and that God's plan unfolds in ways humans cannot foresee. It is the only prophet story told completely in a single surah.

Prophet Moses (Musa) is the most frequently mentioned prophet in the Quran, appearing by name approximately 136 times across more than 30 surahs. His story covers the broadest narrative arc - from birth to leadership of the Israelites - and provides lessons on faith, courage, justice, and confronting oppression.
