What is a deposit and its permissibility
**Definition:** A deposit (wadi'ah) is property that its owner or his representative places with someone to safeguard without compensation. **Evidence from Quran:** - "Let whoever is entrusted render his trust" [2:283] - "Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to those to whom they are due" [4:58] **Evidence from Sunnah:** - **Hadith:** The Prophet ﷺ said: "Fulfill the trust to whoever entrusted you, and do not betray whoever betrayed you" [Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi - sahih] - **Hadith:** "Allah helps His servant as long as the servant helps his brother" [Muslim] **Ruling on Accepting Deposits:** - If one knows he can safeguard it - **recommended** (mustahabb) to accept - If one knows he cannot safeguard it - **not permissible** to accept
