The third pillar of Islam: purifying wealth
**Linguistic meaning:** Growth and increase (zaka = to grow). **Technical meaning:** A specific right due on wealth that has reached a certain threshold (nisab), given to specified categories of people. **Naming reason:** Called "Zakat" because it purifies the soul from miserliness, purifies wealth from the rights of others, and causes wealth to grow and be blessed.
