Unmentioned foods and etiquettes
**What the Legislator Remained Silent About:** What the Legislator did not address and there is no text forbidding it is **halal** - because the default for things is permissibility. **Evidence:** - Allah says: "It is He who created for you all that is on the earth" [Al-Baqarah: 29] - The Prophet ﷺ said: "What Allah made halal in His Book is halal, what He made haram is haram, and what He remained silent about is pardoned - so accept Allah's pardon, for Allah does not forget anything." Then he recited: "And your Lord is not forgetful" [Maryam: 64] [Hakim - authentic] --- **What is Disliked to Eat:** Onions, garlic, and similar foods with foul smell (like leeks and radish) are **disliked** - especially when going to mosques and gatherings of worship. **Evidence:** The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever eats from this foul-smelling tree, let him not approach our mosque, for the angels are harmed by what harms humans" - meaning garlic [Bukhari & Muslim]. In another narration: "until its smell goes away." **If cooked** until the smell disappears, there is no problem. **Evidence:** Umar said: "Whoever eats them, let him kill them by cooking" [Muslim]. Jabir said: "I think he only meant eating them raw" [Bukhari].
