What is waqf and its ruling
**Definition:** Waqf: Restricting property that can be benefited from while its substance remains, seeking nearness to Allah. It is: restricting the principal and releasing the fruits/benefits. **Example:** Endowing a house and renting it, then spending the rent on the needy, mosques, printing religious books, or similar. **Ruling:** It is from **recommended** (mustahabb) deeds. **Evidence:** - **Hadith of Umar رضي الله عنه:** He acquired land in Khaybar and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I acquired land in Khaybar - I have never acquired property more precious to me than it. What do you command me?" He said: "If you wish, restrict its principal and give charity from it - provided its principal is not sold, gifted, or inherited" [Bukhari & Muslim] - **Hadith of Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه:** The Prophet ﷺ said: "When a person dies, his deeds end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who supplicates for him" [Muslim] - *Ongoing charity* means **waqf**
