Sacrifices for pilgrimage
**Definition:** - Hady: What is offered to the Sacred House from livestock (camels, cattle, sheep/goats) as worship of Allah **Types:** **1. Hady of Tamattu' and Qiran:** - Obligatory on those not resident near Masjid al-Haram - It is a sacrifice of worship (nusuk), not compensation (jubran) - **Quran:** "And whoever performs Tamattu' with Umrah and Hajj, [must offer] what is easy of sacrifice" [2:196] **If Unable to Sacrifice:** - Fast 3 days during Hajj (may fast during Days of Tashriq) - Fast 7 days when returning home - **Quran:** "And whoever cannot find [a sacrifice] - then a fast of three days during Hajj and of seven when you have returned" [2:196] **Eating from This Hady:** - Recommended to eat from the hady of Tamattu' and Qiran - **Quran:** "So eat of them and feed the miserable and poor" [22:28] --- **2. Hady of Compensation (Jubran):** - The fidyah required for leaving an obligation or committing a prohibition of ihram - Due to obstruction (ihsar) when its cause exists - **Quran:** "And if you are prevented, then [offer] what is easy of sacrifice" [2:196] - **Narration:** "Whoever forgets something from his rites or leaves it, let him shed blood" - **Cannot eat from it** - must give all as charity to the poor of the Haram --- **3. Voluntary Hady:** - Recommended for every pilgrim of Hajj or Umrah - Following the Prophet ﷺ who offered 100 camels in Farewell Pilgrimage - **Recommended to eat from it** - the Prophet ﷺ commanded a piece from each camel, ate from it, and drank its broth - Non-muhrim may send hady to Makkah without entering ihram --- **4. Hady of Vow (Nadhr):** - What a pilgrim vows as offering to Allah at the Sacred House - **Must be fulfilled** - **Quran:** "Then let them complete their rites and fulfill their vows" [22:29] - **Cannot eat from it** --- **Time of Slaughter:** - Hady of Tamattu' and Qiran: after Eid prayer on Day of Nahr to end of Days of Tashriq - Fidyah for clothing/injury: when the act occurs - Fidyah for leaving obligation: when the cause occurs - Hady of obstruction (ihsar): when its cause exists --- **Place of Slaughter:** - Hady of Tamattu' and Qiran: Sunnah is Mina; valid anywhere in Haram - Fasting: valid anywhere --- **Recommended Fasting:** - 3 days during Hajj, 7 when returning home - **Quran:** "And whoever cannot find - then a fast of three days during Hajj and of seven when you have returned. Those are ten complete [days]" [2:196] --- **Conditions of Hady:** Same as Udhiyah (sacrifice): 1. From livestock (camels, cattle, sheep/goats) 2. Free from defects preventing validity (illness, blindness, lameness, emaciation) 3. Proper age: camels (5 years), cattle (2 years), goats (1 year), sheep (6 months)
