Five rulings on lending
**Five Rulings:** **1. Sub-lending Prohibited:** The borrower may not lend the borrowed item because he doesn't own it. He also may not rent it out - unless the owner permits. **2. Trust Status:** It is a trust in the borrower's hand. He must preserve it and return it intact as he took it. If he transgresses or is negligent, he is liable. **3. Non-binding Contract:** Lending is a non-binding contract. The lender may revoke it whenever he wishes - unless it harms the borrower. If it would harm him, revocation is not permissible. **4. Termination:** The loan ends and the item is returned by: - The owner's demand - even if the borrower's purpose is not fulfilled - Completion of the purpose for the borrowed item - Expiry of time if the loan was time-limited - Death of lender or borrower - as lending is voided by this **5. Use Rights:** The borrower's right to benefit is like the lessee's - he may benefit himself and whoever takes his place, due to his ownership of disposal by the owner's permission.
