Four effects when li'an is completed
**When Li'an is Completed, the Following Results:** 1. **Hadd Punishment Dropped:** The hadd punishment for slander (qadhf) is dropped from the husband. 2. **Permanent Separation:** Separation is established between the spouses, and she becomes permanently forbidden to him - even if the judge does not explicitly separate them. 3. **Lineage Denial:** The child's lineage is negated from him and attributed to the mother. Denying the child requires explicitly mentioning it in the li'an, such as saying: "I testify by Allah that I am truthful in what I accused her of regarding adultery, and this is not my child." **Evidence:** Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما reported that the Prophet ﷺ performed li'an between a man and his wife, separated them, and attributed the child to the mother [Bukhari & Muslim]. 4. **Hadd on the Wife:** The hadd punishment for adultery becomes obligatory upon the woman - unless she also takes the oaths of li'an. If she refuses to take the oaths after his oaths, this becomes strong evidence against her, and the hadd is applied to her. --- **Note on Refusal (Nukul):** Nukul means withdrawal, retreat, and refusal. If either party refuses to take the oaths, the consequences fall upon them.
