Requirements and formulas

Conditions:** A vow is only valid from a person who is: - **Adult** (bāligh) - **Sane** ('āqil) - **Choosing freely** (mukhtār) Thus a vow is **not valid** from: - A child - An insane person - A person with mental deficiency - A person under compulsion **Evidence:** - "The pen is lifted from three..." [hadith] - "Allah has pardoned my Ummah for mistakes..." [hadith] --- **2. Wordings:** The formulas for vows include: - "For Allah upon me to do such..." (لله عليّ أن أفعل كذا) - "Upon me is a vow of such..." (عليّ نذر كذا) - And similar expressions that explicitly mention the vow
