Categories based on validity and condition
**1. Valid vs. Invalid:** **Valid (binding, must fulfill):** A vow of obedience and devotion to Allah - drawing near to Him. **Invalid (not binding, forbidden to fulfill):** A vow of disobedience to Allah - such as vowing to graves, saints, prophets, vowing to kill, drink alcohol, etc. This vow does not bind and is forbidden to fulfill. --- **2. Absolute vs. Conditional:** **A. Absolute (Muṭlaq):** A commitment made initially without being tied to a condition - may be out of gratitude to Allah or without cause. Example: "For Allah upon me to pray/fast such amount." → Must be fulfilled. **B. Conditional (Muqayyad):** Tied to the occurrence of something or fulfillment of a condition. Example: "If Allah heals my sick one" or "if my absent one returns, then upon me is such..." → Must be fulfilled **when the condition is met**.
