Conditions of Salam

Salam is a type of sale, so all sale conditions apply, plus: **1. Attributes Must Be Specifiable:** The item must be describable by measure, weight, or length to avoid disputes. **2. Known Quantity:** The quantity must be known by its Shariah standard - measured items by measure, weighed items by weight. **3. Type and Attributes Known:** The type and distinguishing attributes must be mentioned. **4. Debt in Liability:** The item must be a debt obligation. **5. Must Be Deferred:** The delivery must be on a future date. **6. Known and Specified Term:** The delivery term must be known and specified by both parties. **7. Price Paid in Session:** The full, known price must be paid in the contract session before they part. **8. Must Exist at Delivery Time:** If the item is typically unavailable at the specified time (like fresh dates in winter), the contract is invalid due to uncertainty (gharar).
