**Definition:** Salam and Salaf mean the same thing: Selling a deferred item described in liability for an immediate price. **Evidence:** - **Hadith of Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما:** The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madinah while people were paying in advance for fruits for one or two years. He said: "Whoever pays in advance, let him do so for a known measure, a known weight, and a known term" [Bukhari & Muslim] **Wisdom:** Islamic law permitted it to make things easier for people. For example, a farmer may not have cash to spend on improving and cultivating his land, and cannot find someone to lend him. So salam was permitted so he doesn't miss the benefit of investing in his land.
