Arrival and circumambulation
**Upon Arriving in Makkah:** - Recommended to take ghusl (bath) **Tawaf (Circumambulation):** **Conditions:** - Must have wudu (ablution) **Idtiba' (for men in Tawaf al-Qudum):** - Uncover right shoulder - Place middle of rida' under right armpit with both ends over left shoulder **Beginning:** - Start at the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad) - Touch it and kiss it if possible - If not possible, touch it with hand and kiss hand - If not possible, point to it without kissing hand - Say "Bismillah Allahu Akbar" or "Allahu Akbar" - Do this at start of each circuit **Ramal (first 3 circuits):** - Walk briskly (between walking and running) - Men only **Walk normally** in remaining 4 circuits **At Rukn Yamani:** - Touch it if possible, do not kiss it - If unable, do not point to it or say takbir - Between Rukn Yamani and Black Stone say: "Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah, wa fil-akhirati hasanah, wa qina 'adhab an-nar" **Throughout Tawaf:** - Make du'a as you wish **After 7 circuits:** - Cover both shoulders - Go to Maqam Ibrahim - Read: "Wattakhidhu min maqami Ibrahima musalla" - Pray 2 rak'ahs behind the Maqam (Surah al-Kafirun in first, al-Ikhlas in second) - If crowded, pray anywhere in the masjid **This Tawaf is:** - Tawaf al-Qudum for Mufrid and Qarin - Tawaf al-Umrah for Mutamatti'
