Meaning and ruling of gifts
**Definition:** Hibah (gift) is a voluntary donation by a legally capable person during his lifetime to another, of known property or otherwise, without compensation. **Ruling:** Gifts are **recommended (mustahabb)** when intending the pleasure of Allah - such as giving to the righteous, the poor, or as kinship ties. **Evidence:** - **Hadith of Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه:** The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Exchange gifts, you will love one another" [Bayhaqi - graded hasan by Albani] - **Hadith of Aisha رضي الله عنها:** "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to accept gifts and reciprocate" [Bukhari] **Disliked:** Gifts are **disliked** if given for showing off, seeking reputation, or boasting.
