Proofs and purpose of Hudud
**Evidence for Hudud:** The basis for the legislation of Hudud is the Quran, Sunnah, and Consensus. The Quran and Sunnah have established specific punishments for specific crimes and sins - such as adultery, theft, drinking alcohol, and others - which will be detailed in the following chapters, along with all evidences, God willing. --- **Wisdom of Hudud:** Hudud were legislated to: 1. **Deter souls** from committing sins and transgressing Allah's sanctities 2. **Achieve tranquility** in society 3. **Spread security** among its members 4. **Establish stability** and pleasant living --- **Purification in This World:** Hudud also serve as **purification for the servant** in this world: **Evidence:** - Hadith of 'Ubadah ibn as-Samit رضي الله عنه (regarding the pledge): "Whoever commits any of these sins and is punished for it, that is its expiation" [Bukhari & Muslim]. - Hadith of Khuzaymah ibn Thabit رضي الله عنه attributed to the Prophet: "Whoever commits a hadd and has it established upon him, it is the expiation of that sin" [Ahmad, Daraqutni - hasan]. These Hudud, while achieving the benefit of the servants, are entirely just and fair - indeed, they are the epitome of justice.
