**Linguistic Meaning:** Staying with something, confining oneself to it. **Technical Meaning:** A Muslim of discernment staying in a mosque for the worship of Allah. **Ruling:** Sunnah (recommended) and a means of drawing near to Allah. **Evidence:** - **Quran:** "Purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who are staying [for worship] and those who bow and prostrate" [2:125] - **Quran:** "And do not have relations with them while you are staying in the mosques" [2:187] - **Hadith of Aisha:** "The Prophet ﷺ used to observe i'tikaf in the last ten nights of Ramadan until he passed away" [Bukhari & Muslim] - **Consensus:** The Muslims agreed on its legitimacy and that it is Sunnah. **Established by:** Quran, Sunnah, and Ijma'.
