Spending on Children

**Spending on Children (Descendants):** It is obligatory upon the father (and ascending male relatives) to provide for his child (and descending relatives). **Evidence from the Quran:** Allah says: "And upon the father is their provision and clothing according to what is reasonable" [Al-Baqarah: 233] - Allah obligated the expenses of breastfeeding the child upon the father. **Evidence from the Sunnah:** Aisha رضي الله عنها reported that Hind bint Utbah said: "O Messenger of Allah, Abu Sufyan is a stingy man. He does not give me what suffices me and my children except what I take from him without his knowledge." He ﷺ said: "Take what suffices you and your children according to what is reasonable" [Bukhari & Muslim].
