Spending on Wife

**Spending on Wife:** It is obligatory for the husband to provide for his wife. **Evidence:** - Allah says: "Men are in charge of women because Allah has made one of them excel the other and because they spend from their wealth" [An-Nisa: 34] - Jabir رضي الله عنه reported, in the context of the Prophet's ﷺ Hajj: "And they have the right over you for their provision and clothing according to what is reasonable" [Muslim] - The Prophet ﷺ said in the hadith of Jabir mentioned earlier: "If there is surplus, then for your family" - The hadith of Aisha mentioned earlier, where the Prophet ﷺ said to Hind: "Take what suffices you and your children according to what is reasonable" --- **What is Obligatory:** The husband must provide his wife with food, housing, and clothing - what is suitable for her like. **Who is Entitled:** - The wife who is in his marriage - The wife divorced with a revocable divorce, as long as she is in her waiting period - The wife divorced with an irrevocable divorce has no right to maintenance or housing - unless she is pregnant, in which case she has the right to maintenance. **Evidence:** Allah says: "And if they are pregnant, then spend on them until they give birth" [At-Talaq: 6]
