Seven rulings on competitions
**Seven Rulings:** **1.** Racing is permissible on horses and other animals and vehicles, on foot, and in archery and weapons use. **2.** Racing for prizes is permissible in camels, horses, and archery - per the hadith: "No prize except in camel racing, archery, or horse racing." **3.** Everything that results in religious benefit - like training for jihad, training in religious knowledge - racing in it is permissible and prizes may be taken. **4.** Everything intended for permissible play and recreation without harm - racing in it is permissible, provided it does not distract from religious obligations like prayer. - **This type does not permit taking prizes.** **5.** Either contestant may withdraw from the race as long as neither has shown superiority. Once one shows superiority, the superior may withdraw but not the inferior. **6.** Racing is void by the death of either contestant or either mount. **7.** It is disliked for the referee or spectators to praise or criticize either contestant.
