Types of Ta'zir Punishments

Ta'zir punishments can be classified according to what they affect: **1. Physical/Bodily Punishments:** - Flogging - Execution (in severe cases) --- **2. Financial Punishments:** - Destruction (إتلاف) - Fine (غرم) Examples: Destroying idols and smashing them, destroying musical instruments, and wine containers. --- **3. Combined (Physical + Financial):** - Flogging a thief who stole from an unsecured place - Plus doubling the fine upon him The Prophet ﷺ ruled that whoever steals hanging fruit before it is stored in the drying area: hadd [is applied] and double the fine. (The drying area - jarīn - is where dates are dried.) --- **4. Restrictions on Freedom:** - Imprisonment - Exile --- **5. Psychological Punishments:** - Causing distress to the soul through rebuke - Censure and reproach
