The eight categories who receive Zakat
**The Eight Categories (Quran 9:60):** "Zakah expenditures are only for: 1. The poor (fuqara') 2. The needy (masakin) 3. Those employed to collect [zakat] 4. For bringing hearts together [for Islam] 5. For freeing captives 6. For those in debt 7. For the cause of Allah 8. For the stranded traveler —an obligation from Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise." These are the ONLY valid recipients. Zakat cannot be given to others.
