Puberty

- Hajj is not obligatory on a child - Because a child is not legally responsible - **Hadith:** "The pen is lifted from three..." including "the child until he reaches puberty" **If a Child Performs Hajj:** - Valid as voluntary worship - The guardian makes intention for a non-discerning child - Does NOT count as the obligatory Hajj of Islam - **Hadith:** A woman lifted a child and asked: "Does this one have Hajj?" He said: "Yes, and you have reward" [Muslim] - **Hadith:** "Any child who performs Hajj then reaches puberty, he must perform another Hajj" [Shafi'i, Bayhaqi - sahih]
