Don't combine what's separate or separate what's combined to avoid Zakat
Combining or separating livestock for Zakat
**Two Types of Mixing:** **1. Khultat A'yan (Joint Ownership):** - Shared property between two people - Undivided, each share not distinguished - Through inheritance or joint purchase **2. Khultat Awsaf (Proximity Mixing):** - Each person's share is known/separate - But they share: shelter, pasture, watering, breeding male **Effect:** Combined livestock treated as single flock for Zakat calculation. **Conditions:** - Combined total reaches nisab - Both owners are Muslims (obligated to pay Zakat) - Share: shelter, pasture, watering place, breeding male **Hadith:** "Don't combine what's separate, nor separate what's combined, fearing the charity. Whatever is from two partners, they settle between them fairly." [Tirmidhi] **Examples:** - 3 people with 40 sheep each (120 total) = only 1 sheep due (not 3) - 1 person with 40 sheep splits them into 20+20 before collector comes = avoids Zakat (forbidden)
