Three essential elements
The pillars of marriage upon which it exists and stands are: **1. The Two Contracting Parties:** The husband and wife who are free from marriage impediments that have been mentioned and will be detailed in the section on prohibited women. **2. The Offer (Ijab):** The wording issued from the guardian or his representative (proxy) using the words "nikah" (marriage) or "tazwij" (giving in marriage). **3. The Acceptance (Qabul):** The wording issued from the groom or his representative, using the words: "I accept" or "I am pleased with this marriage." **Note:** The offer must precede the acceptance.
