Fast a day before it or a day after it, differ from the Jews
10th Muharram + day before/after
**Evidence:** - **Hadith:** The Prophet ﷺ was asked about fasting Ashura. He said: "I hope from Allah that it expiates the year before it" [Muslim] **Adding a Day:** - Recommended to fast the 9th AND 10th, OR 10th AND 11th - **Hadith:** "If I live until next year, I will fast the ninth" [Muslim] - **Hadith:** "Fast a day before it or a day after it, differ from the Jews" [Ahmad, Ibn Khuzaymah] **Purpose:** - To differ from the Jews who fasted only the 10th
