**Evidence:** - "Spend from the good things you have earned and from what We brought forth for you from the earth" [2:267] - "Give its due on the day of harvest" [6:141] **When Due:** - **Grains:** When grain hardens and becomes edible - **Fruits:** When they ripen and become good to eat - NO hawl (year) required - due at harvest **What Requires Zakat:** - Must be **storable** (مكيل مدخر) - Staple foods: wheat, barley, corn, rice - Fruits: dates, raisins - **NOT:** vegetables, fruits that don't keep **Nisab (Minimum):** - 5 wasq = 300 sa' = approximately **612 kg** - **Hadith:** "No charity in less than 5 wasq" [Bukhari & Muslim] - Wasq = camel load = 60 sa' **Amount Due:** - **10% (one-tenth):** Rain-fed, spring-fed, or deep-rooted - **5% (half of one-tenth):** Irrigated with effort (wells, buckets, animals) - **Hadith:** "What is watered by rain, springs, or naturally: one-tenth. What is watered by irrigation (nadi): half of one-tenth" [Bukhari]
