**Virtue:** Manumission is among the best acts of worship and greatest obediences. **Evidence from Quran:** Allah says: "Or the freeing of a slave" [Al-Balad: 13] - mentioned as the path to salvation and goodness for those who take it. **Evidence from Sunnah:** - Abu Hurayrah's hadith above on freeing from Fire - Abu Umamah رضي الله عنه reported from the Prophet ﷺ: "Whoever frees a Muslim person, it will be his ransom from the Fire..." [Tirmidhi - sahih] The texts on the virtue of manumission are very numerous. **Note:** Freeing a male is better than freeing a female. A more valuable slave who is more beloved to his owner is better than others. **Wisdom of Legislation:** Manumission is legislated in Islam for noble purposes and profound wisdoms: - **Liberating the human:** Freeing the protected human from the harm of bondage, giving him ownership of himself - **Enabling agency:** Allowing him to dispose of himself and his benefits according to his will and choice - **Expiation:** Allah made it an expiation for killing, intercourse in Ramadan, and oaths
