It is not righteousness to fast while traveling
Breaking fast during journey
**Ruling:** - Traveler is permitted to break fast - Must make up days later - **Quran:** "Whoever is ill or traveling, then [an equal] number of other days" [2:185] **Distance:** - Travel that permits shortening prayer (~80 km / 48 miles) **Conditions:** - Must be **permissible travel** (not sinful) - Travel intended to evade fasting does not permit breaking **If the Traveler Fasts:** - Valid and counts - **Hadith:** "We used to travel with the Prophet ﷺ, and the fasting person didn't criticize the one breaking fast, nor vice versa" [Bukhari] **Hardship During Travel:** - If fasting causes difficulty, breaking is better - **Hadith:** The Prophet ﷺ saw a fasting man shaded due to heat: "It is not righteousness to fast while traveling" [Bukhari]
