Minimum age for each animal type
**Required Ages:** | Animal | Minimum Age | |--------|-------------| | Camels | 5 years complete | | Cattle | 2 years complete | | Goats | 1 year complete | | Sheep | 6 months (or 1 year) | **Evidence:** - **Hadith of Jabir رضي الله عنه:** The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Do not slaughter except a musinnah (mature animal), unless it is difficult for you, then slaughter a jadha'ah (young) from sheep" [Muslim] **Terminology:** - **Musinnah:** For camels = 5 years; for cattle = 2 years; for goats = 1 year (also called thaniyyah) - **Jadha'ah:** For sheep = what has completed 1 year, or some say 6 months **Evidence for Sheep:** - **Hadith of Uqbah ibn Amir رضي الله عنه:** I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I got a jadha'ah (young sheep)." He said: "Sacrifice it" [Bukhari & Muslim]
